My music
I've been musically inclined for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are of my Dad (pictured sitting) playing guitar in the house, or myself making awful noise on my Grandma's Wurlitzer organ while visiting, until she yelled at me to stop. I formally learned the saxophone beginning at age 11 and started learning guitar by ear about a year later. Guitar has since become my main instrument, life-long and self-taught (although I drum on everything I touch and go bananas behind a kit). I also adore producing music, acquiring an Associate Engineering certificate from The Recording Institute of Detroit.
StormFront
My Dad formed StormFront in 1997, the year after releasing his record "Coaster." Coaster featured backing by a full studio band and production team led by Jade Scott Santos of Overture Music in Novi, MI. The album was promoted, and StormFront was formed to back it; I joined as lead guitarist and the first member. We were later joined by neighborhood friends. Together we've recorded 7 albums, toured extensively around Michigan, and performed on radio and TV several times. We are survived by founding member Bob Barden (rhythm guitar and vocals) and consist of: Jim Akans, Chris Akans, Rick Berg, Rick Stein, Tammi Harris, and Paul DeFord.

Chris Akans and Colleen Kelly documented a migration from Michigan to California, driven a little more than aimlessly over the span of 2 years while living out of a '78 VW Westy, circa 2003 in music. Our travels inspired the production of an album of songs co-written, recorded and performed together.
